Reading: In reading, we are learning about the main idea and supporting details in a text. The main idea is what the text is mostly about, and the supporting details help support the main idea. Students are doing a great job finding the main idea in short passages. Next week, we will be sharing main idea bags, and I can't wait to see what the students come up with.
Math: In math, we just finished Topic 2. Topic 2 focused on multi-digit addition and subtraction, as well as ways to check your answer. The topic also included multi-step word problems. Next week, we will be starting Topic 7, which is about factors and multiples.
Social Studies: In social studies, we learned about the three branches of government and completed a Webquest to find information. Students are currently working on a group project, picked from a choice board, to show their learning.
Writing: In writing, we are writing personal narratives. We discussed that a personal narrative focuses on one small moment in your life. We chose a moment from our summer vacation. Wow, you all did a lot of fun things over the summer! Students are writing a four paragraph essay, with an exciting lead and details. Be sure to check out your child's writing in the hallway during conference week, which is next week.
I'm looking forward to discussing your child's goals with you next week! Have a great weekend!
