The next read aloud we started is The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. This summer, we were fortunate enough to get a class set donated through Donorschoose.org (thank you to my friends, family, and strangers whom donated). The kids are able to follow along while I am reading. We are having fun reading about Jessie and Evan. We are continuing to use our reading notebooks to take notes and learn about new words. This year our read alouds have been much more interactive than what I've done in the past. The first read aloud I read to the class was Flutter by Erin Moulton. The kids absolutely loved this story. Throughout the book, we took notes in our reading notebook. The kids received a good introduction to similes and were able to make inferences about the two main characters, Dawn and Maple. At the end of the book, we also summarized the story. Right now, a few students are working on creating a book trailer for Flutter.
